I am SO grateful to be experiencing Christmas sober and surrounded by unconditional love. From 2009-2014 I was either in jail, a psych ward, rehab or on the streets in a drunken stupor over Christmas because I didn’t know how to handle all the overwhelming feelings of sentimentality, nostalgia and guilt/ shame. Now when Christmas time arrives I relish every moment of it wishing I could stop time to hold on to it just a little longer. All the ‘feels’ actually feel good. It’s the season of giving and thinking more about others and less about ourselves. It’s about sharing our love and appreciation for our family & friends and all that we have to be grateful for in our lives. I am beyond grateful I get to spend it with this man, who’s love is generous & kind & beyond patient with me and my four year old fits. He doesn’t care that I live in my favorite Walmart pajamas and never change my smelly socks and pick my nose. I’m pretty confident I could fart on his face and he’d still love me just the same (I haven’t yet but I’m planning on it). I don’t know what I did to deserve this kind of love but I will cherish it and pass it on to others and do my best to contribute to the world in a way that positively impacts the lives of others, like he does. I would have nothing without sobriety, I am so deeply grateful for this chance at life again and will never take it for granted. LOVE LOVE LOVE IS ALL AROUND. 💖
